What are the symptoms of hair loss?
Hair loss can appear in many ways, depending on the factor causing it. It can be sudden or gradual and may affect only the head or other parts of the body. Some hair loss conditions are temporary, while others are permanent.
Signs and symptoms of the condition include:
Gradual thinning in different parts of the head
This is the most common form of hair loss affecting both men and women as they age. In men, the hair begins to recede at the hairline, forming an “M” shape, or at the crown. In women, the hairline usually remains intact, but there is thinning in other parts of the hair.
Circular thinning spots
Some individuals experience the appearance of small (coin-sized) bald spots. This type of hair loss primarily affects the head but can also occur in the beard and eyebrows. In some cases, the skin may feel itchy before the hair loss begins.
Sudden hair fall
A physical or psychological shock can lead to hair thinning and falling. Entire “handfuls” of hair may fall from the head as we comb or wash our hair.
Hair loss across the body
In some conditions or medical treatments (e.g., chemotherapy), the result may be hair loss throughout the entire body. Hair growth usually returns after the condition or treatment ends.
What are the causes of hair loss?
It is normal for every person to lose about 50–100 hairs daily. This loss is not noticeable because new hair grows at the same time. The problem arises when this number significantly increases.

Conservative Treatment
This approach is commonly used when hair loss is due to a certain disease. Specifically, it involves medication to reduce inflammation. Such medications include:
- Minoxidil
- Finasteride
- Dutasteride
Surgery-Hair Transplant
During a hair transplant procedure, a dermatologist removes tiny pieces of skin, each containing one or more hairs, from the back of the scalp(donor area). Sometimes, a larger strip of skin containing multiple hairs is taken.
The doctor then places the hair grafts on the bald areas. Some doctors recommend using minoxidil after the transplant to help minimize hair loss. Lastly, you may need more than one surgical procedure to achieve the desired result.
Other treatment methods for hair loss include topical lotions, pills, autologous hair mesotherapy with PRP (platelet-rich plasma).
Ποιοι λόγοι οδηγούν στην Τριχόπτωση;
